Raph Koster, known also as Designer Dragon, has been cleaning out his garage, and marked the occasion of Ultima Online’s 15th anniversary by tweeting a pair of scanned images of an article entitled Mudders of Invention from Point of Origin, the internal newsletter at Origin Systems. He graciously agreed to allow the Ultima Codex to re-post them here:

The article itself was written by Ultima Online developer Edmond Meinfelder, who is now apparently a senior software engineer at ngmoco:), and talks about the interrelationship between UO and MUDs and the MUDding experience of most of the then-new additions to the Ultima Online team.

As always, enjoy! Bring up the full-size images and give the article a read. Enjoy this fascinating little glimpse into the history of Ultima Online’s development and Origin Systems’ internal workings. The Ultima Codex is indebted to Raph Koster for sharing this with us, and to everyone who worked at Origin Systems for bringing us Ultima Online!
